Texas welcomes the McCrays with Open Arms PART II

Before we get started with the rest of what Texas had to offer the McCray family, I would like to thank Kevin Ulshaffer  who welcomed us into his home when we first arrived in Texas. Congrats on your new bride Kevin, we're very happy for you !!!!!


Part I of this blog left off on Valentine's Day and now we're moving onto the wonderful weekend.
It's now Saturday February 15, 2014 and I am on the way to the first tournament of the weekend being hosted by Dynamic Discs. I arrive for the Cedar Hill Chill with an Open Pro Men's field of 41 players. This is a huge field for a one day event and one that I want to win very much...so that's just what I did. I am so happy that I won this event, my first win in Texas has arrived. I met a lot of great people and I enjoyed my rounds very much. Thank you to everyone who played and ran the event.

OK, shake off Saturday and let's move onto to Sunday February 16, 2014. It's another one day event hosted by Dynamic Discs. I arrive at the Towne Lake Pro/AM and a field of 26 pro open male players. I was able to practice this course for a round but upon my arrival I found out that there were three more temporary holes added...I better get out there quickly and see those holes and warm up a bit because I really want to win this event as well...so, that's what I did. I am so elated to have won the Towne Lake event . I was able to play with some of the same players as I did the day before which was very nice for me. Getting to know people along the way is just as exciting as winning an event.  Again, I want to thank everyone behind the scenes and on the course for such an amazing weekend.

Dynamic Discs

After such a wonderful weekend we're now off to Abilene, Texas. My good friend Joe Simpson has thrown together a 2nd Disc Golf Clinic in Texas. We were graciously welcomed by Joe's sister Simone and her family. Such hospitality that my mind is just blown away. Simone welcomed us with a warm meal, shower, washing machine, front door key and wonderful conversation. Thank you Joe and Thank you to Simone and her family.

The disc golf clinic was held on Wednesday February 19, 2014. We had about 20 players come out for the clinic as well as a local newspaper reporter and the college disc golf teacher. It was a great afternoon of learning with a nice double's round after the clinic...but wait, there is a problem with Gus the RV. All of a sudden our generator is no longer working. Here comes Texas hospitality again. Jimmy Simpson to the rescue. Jimmy diagnosed the problem and had us fixed up and ready to go within the hour.

The 13th Annual Southwest Florida Open

January 25th and 26th 2014 held in Port Charlotte, Florida.

This is a very tough course if you don't have a thumber shot. 

I started off this tournament on a very tough front nine with complete frustration due to my lacking of the infamous THUMBER shot. Getting to the back nine for me I was able to use the shots that I prefer to use. 

1st round I came in with a 51

  2nd  round I came in with a 51

3rd round I came in with a 49

4th round I came in with a 4

Let's get back to that Thumber shot thing...Dylan Dunne has one of the sickest THUMBER shots I have ever seen playing this game. Absolutely crazy to see this guy throw this shot. "Dylan" I might have to pay for a few lessons to learn this shot from you. Great finish too!

Jeff Vandermark, you played extremely well during this tournament and I enjoyed watching your rounds. You calmness was very inspiring to me. Great shooting to you sir.

Baxter Frost, can you miss a putt? You have such a smooth game and it was a pleasure to have played in your group. 

Nick Long, thank you for your very positive attitude during the round. I really enjoyed watching your game as well. You have a very smooth throw. We really enjoyed your company and the way you were always smiling.

Taylor Smith, what a great first round score you carded. AWESOME job to you!

Ken Hollenbach, you also carded a nice under par score that first round...AWESOME job to you too.

Jesse Amador and his crew...wow, what a nice tournament you all ran and the food was delicious. I really appreciate the hard work you did running this event. I will miss this tournament very much as I will miss all the other Florida events that I won't be able to attend this year.

Anyone that is wanting to escape the cold weather and enjoy a very well run event, please give this event a try next year. You will enjoy it very much BUT make sure you get out there early and practice this tough course.  North Charlotte Regional Park

JohnE McCray and turbo putting

Just to paint the whole scenario. JohnE finished the 18th hole but left his marker... once the round was done he said he should have thrown a turbo at it instead of a normal putt. This turbo putt was a "practice throw" after the round but it proved that he should of listened to his gut and turbo'ed it. He is the king of turbo for sure 

---JohnE McCray  "I have always been a fan of the turbo putt. Living in Florida, you can find yourself behind a palmetto bush but need to either make the putt or get as close to the disc golf basket as possible.
You can think of the turbo putt as a baseball pitcher's throw...especially the follow through.
I have mastered the turbo putt, with hyzer and an-hyzer completions. Just like any disc golf throw, it does take practice to master the shot...you get out of it what you put into it.

It's About Time

Ever since I was in middle school, this has been one of my favorite pizza places in Brandon,Fl

This pizza is delicious and was always my dad's favorite.  

Last night my wife and I both were craving the DOUBLE DECKER, so that's what we decided to have.

As we were sitting there eating our delicious pizza it dawned on us...this tour is really about to happen.

My wife, Jen, has worked so hard over the last seven years and I can't wait for her to see our beautiful country.

"YES" this It's About Time Tour is a lot about playing on the 2014 National PDGA Tour but it's also about seeing the sites this country has to offer. SO, we have created a bucket list for this tour.

Here are just a few of the things we really want to see:

• Redwood Trees
• Niagra Falls
• Napa Valley Winery
• Grand Canyon
• Statue of Liberty

These are just a few on the top of the list. We would love to read any comments from you if you have visited any of these amazing places.
